After two disappointing opening rounds of Sports Car Open with a DNF in both, we hoped for better fortunes in the Nürburgring which was the location for round three in the series.
Kazuki Oomishima qualified our Dallara P217 LMP2 in P10 and the Japanese driver made up three positions through the first couple of corners, which was a great start. Kazuki’s teammates Simeon Lynch and Charlie Summers also showed the level of pace they have done in the first two rounds. They climbed closer to the top 5, but bad luck once again hit them, but this time they were able to carry on and finished in P7.
Their pace justified a better finishing result, but the damage they had cost them around a second per lap. Again not the result we’ve hoped for in Sports Car Open, but it is points on the board.
Simeon has made this comment:
“Happy to finally get some points on the board after two DNF finishes however pretty disappointed with P7 given our pace merited a top 5 at least without some questionable decisions throughout the race.”
The guys keep their heads high. We know what they are capable off, and hopefully, they will be able to show it in round 4 of Sports Car Open at Silverstone in January.
