Under the lights at the Marina Bay street circuit in Singapore, Jernej Simončič and Robin Pansar put on a great show for the 12th round of the 2020 GPVWC Superleague season.
Once again, Jernej put his Burst Esport Basilea car on pole position, over a tenth of a second ahead of Dennis Jordan. Robin ran into traffic on his final run, so he couldn’t improve and started from 5th on the grid.
Jernej made one of signature great starts which saw him stay in the lead, while Robin had to concede a position in order to keep the car intact.
The race settled relatively quick and not much happened leading up to the pit stop round. However, Jernej missed his braking point very slightly going into the hairpin which saw Jordan going up the inside and taking the lead.
Both Burst drivers pitted on lap 23 to go onto the hard compound of tires and make a one stop strategy work. Dennis Jordan had planned for the same, so now it was a straight up fight between him and Jernej for the race win.
Robin was battling Liam de Wall throughout the whole race, and since De Wall was on a two stop strategy the Swedish Burst driver was sitting in 4th place with just 5 laps to go. The tires were completely done for both Jernej and Robin who were fighting with almost no grip.
On the final lap, De Wall overtook Robin who as mentioned had no life left in the tires to fight with and finished in a solid 5th place. Jernej was able to just about hold on to P2 that means he closes the gap to Jannick Bock and Adam Maguire in the championship fight. Everything is still possible with three rounds to go.
Burst Esport Basilea stays 3rd in the constructors with three round to go off the 2020 GPVWC Superleague. Next destination is Sochi Autodrome where the Russian Grand Prix takes place.
