Circuit Spa-Francorchamps hosted the 10th round of the 2020 GPVWC Superleague season where Jernej Simončič was aiming to replicate his performance in the German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring, where he lead from start to finish.
In their Burst Esport Basilea cars, Jernej Simončič and Robin Pansar qualified in 3rd and 10th, which gave them a great starting point on a track that’s providing great opportunities for overtaking.
Jernej made a great start and were up into second place and Robin avoided all the drama around him where multiple cars had contact with each other and stayed in 10th.
The soft compound of tires didn’t have the greatest of pace for Jernej who like Robin on his medium tires decided to go long on the first stint, and after the pit stop round Jernej they fitted on the medium tires while Robin went onto the softs. The car came alive for them both and they were climbing up the standings with the advantage of fresher tires than their competitors.
With 10 laps to go, Jernej caught up to Liam de Waal in 3rd place and those two had an intense and great battle for multiple laps which allowed De Waal’s teammate to catch up. The three way fight ended on lap 41 where Jernej got taken out and limbed around to finish in 9th place in what looked like a solid podium finish.
Robin Pansar drove a brilliant race, where his medium tire stint brought him into the top 5 at the chequered flag.
After the Belgium Grand Prix, Jernej and Robin sit in 3rd and 17th place in the drivers standings and 4th in the constructor standings.
In round 11 of the GPVWC Superleague, the field goes to Monza where the long straights at the temple of speed usually provide tons of action and great battles.
