Joao started out his sim racing career as a teenager on the rFactor 1 and GTR platforms, using a controller.
A couple of years later, he bought his first steering wheel and began racing on Assetto Corsa, followed up by rFactor 2, where the latter is his main focus today.
The Portuguese sim racer started racing competitively in 2018 with Formula SimRacing and the Virtual Endurance Championship. As he says himself: “I’m not a big predator but I like to swim with the big fish“.
As well as being a good driver, Joao is also a great contributor to boosting team morale with his humour, both on and off the track. Here’s a quote from him:
“I like to think that I’m calm and calculated but truth is that I get very healthy mad and tense while driving and actually enjoy it like that. I recall several times a catchphrase everyone knows and loves but for seriousness purposes it can’t be said here!”
There’s still plenty of potential in Joao. His passion for sim racing and never settling for second place is clear, and the best is still to come.
